Slides & Slingbacks

Slides are a favourite of ours at heel boy. We are not talking soccer slides or pool slides but rather the closed- toe slide shoe. They are perfect for transition into spring and fall, when one is totally done with boots but not quite ready for sandals. Slides allow us to say goodbye to socks whilst not having to commit to barring our toes. They are comfortable as well as easy on, easy off. I often leave a pair at the door as "summer slippers" in case I need to pop out to the corner store, or take out the garbage or take the dog for a quickie pee before bed!
Summer Slide Slippers
While slides are great for transition seasons they are also great for the workplace. Sometimes open-toe sandals are not permitted by employers or sometimes it is personal preference not to show one's toes at work. Sandals can sometimes feel too casual or if your office (remember those!) is too air conditioned exposed toes can get cold. I also often wear my slides out in the evening for the same reason. Nights can sometimes be cool, even in our summer, and knowing you'll have warm toes is a comfort. And if you choose to move on after a dinner out it is nice to know that your toes are protected from fellow dancers!

Colourful slides and slingbacks

Slides come in such a wide variety of fun colours and patterns, there are so many to choose from and certainly one to suit every outfit. We even love the slide as a "summer slipper" to elevate our round the house look as well as provide a cooler option that fuzzy winter slippers.

Sporty slides

Slides have long been a favourite of mine. As I pull them out from winter storage they bring hope of warmer days and months ahead. They offer a change from sneakers while remaining casual and comfortable but they also look very professional. And as our feet move from being in protective socks to the perils of leather (or whatever material you choose) on skin, slides save our heels from that painful and unsightly blister. And if you just can't quite come around to the idea of the slide, then the next best choice is the slingback, to which almost all of the above applies!

Pro tip: While this might seem a bit TMI, it is important, specially if you are trying the slide for the first time, to know that a warm, slightly sweaty foot is ideal for keeping the slide on your foot. Slides can generally not be worn with socks and definitely not with nylons.
